When I left the UK to volunteer in Africa I kind of thought I'd be leaving behind the demanding work and crazy busy social life I had and would have more time to relax and chill....... Boy was I wrong!!
This week has been crazy - frantically been preparing for my first big work moment next week, yes I am unleasing my training skills and am facilitating a session on what Organisational Development is and what I'll be doing here at GPI! Just as I thought I was done for the week we get hit by a huge amount of work from VSO! We have 10 UK volunteers between 18-25 arriving in January - sounds great and I can't wait. But we have to recruit host homes for them to stay in and 10 national Nigerian volunteers for them to work with!! So I've been preparing application forms and marketing materials for that!
Then there is my social life - I'm blessed to have made some great friends here in Calabar, so rarely find myself at home in the evenings! Also looking forward to seeing the lovely Heather and McKinley who are visiting Calabar this weekend on their way to Cameroon!
Plus with Christmas coming up, the influx on VSO volunteers arriving for celebrations and organising our trip up to Obudu and Affi Mountain - well even more to do!
Thankfully am enjoying being busy at the moment, but am hoping for a slightly quieter January!
I think I've earnt a well deserved rest on Sunday at our lovely local pool at Axari Hotel!
